Becoming an Outdoors Woman® (BOW) helps adult women explore the outdoors through fun hands-on workshops in a welcoming, confidence-building environment. No background or experience is necessary—just curiosity and a sense of adventure.
Our programs span hunting, fishing, and many other outdoor recreation activities, giving participants plenty of ways to learn, connect, and get outside.
Originally launched in the U.S. in 1991, the Becoming an Outdoors Woman® program (BOW) was introduced in Nova Scotia in 1997.
Today, BOW workshops are offered internationally, with programs available in many provinces and states through BOW International.
Here in Nova Scotia, BOW is run entirely by volunteers. Our instructors and coordinators share their skills because they love the outdoors and believe in creating a welcoming space for everyone. Many have been part of BOW for decades. Respect, support, and community are at the heart of what we do.
BOW Nova Scotia is supported by a number of Provincial government departments.
BOW Nova Scotia is grateful to receive financial and in-kind support from many private corporations, organizations and individuals.
The many generous donations to the Silent Auctions at our workshops are deeply appreciated. Without the support of our donors, sponsors, and volunteers, these workshops would not be possible.
BOW Nova Scotia always welcomes new supporters, sponsors, and volunteers. If you’d like to help us keep workshops affordable for participants or are interested in volunteering, please reach out to bownovascotia@gmail.com
