Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at BOWNovaScotia@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Our usual policy is that bookings are non-refundable. However, we’re happy to offer a refund if we’re able to fill your spot from our waitlist.

Typically, we need at least one to two weeks’ notice from the event date in order to have a reasonable opportunity to fill the spot, as last-minute openings can be difficult to accommodate. We truly appreciate your understanding and will always do our best to help where we can!

Onsite accommodation for Thursday night is available for an additional $50.00 fee for participants attending the gun safety portion of the workshop or those travelling a longer distance. This accommodation option can be selected during registration. Once your registration is complete, we’ll send you a separate form with the details needed to arrange your stay.

Bursaries

A limited number of bursaries are available to assist with partial payment of registration fees. Applicants are responsible for paying the remaining balance at the time of registration.

Bursaries are available to Nova Scotia residents who are first-time participants and who meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Full-time students
  • Single parents
  • Individuals from low-income households  (Please refer to the application form for full eligibility criteria.)

Applicants who have previously received bursary or scholarship funding are not eligible. Receiving a bursary does not provide priority registration for classes. Participants are encouraged to register as soon as registration opens to secure their preferred classes.

Please submit the completed BURSARY APPLICATION to bownovascotia@gmail.com. Applicants will be notified by email regarding the outcome of their application. Successful applicants will receive a promo code to use during online registration for partial payment.

We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the BOW® Bursary Program, including contributions from the Susan Hruszowy-Romkey Memorial Fund, the Nova Scotia Big Game Society, and the many individuals who donate items and support our auctions.

For information on how to contribute to the bursary program, please contact bownovascotia@gmail.com.

Susan Joan Hruszowy-Romkey Memorial Fund

July 28, 1960 – May 28, 2010

As a long-time coordinator, Susan “Sue” Hruszowy-Romkey took great pride in the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program. She served for many years as both a BOW Coordinator and instructor.

In her memory, the Hruszowy-Romkey family established a memorial fund that provides an annual partial bursary to eligible participants in the Becoming an Outdoors Woman Bursary Program.

“Being brave or being courageous is really just a matter of how much you want to do something. If you don’t want to do something that much then you won’t be brave enough to do it. If you really want to do something then you will be brave enough to do it”
